Smallville "In The Zone" for 2006 Debut

Clark Kent and the crew of Smallville were "In The Zone" for the series' fall 2006-2007 debut. Over five million viewers tuned in September 28 to watch the season opener as the show kicked off its sixth year.

As in all of its previous outings, Smallville features signature visual effects created and supervised by Entity FX. The season premiere saw the Entity FX team pulling out the stops to send Clark into the desolate and deadly "Phantom Zone" and Metropolis into a state of chaos unleashed by Lex Luthor as "Zod."

The episode called for rapid turnaround of more than 70 visual effects shots, including creation of a new class of characters called "phantoms," cloaked in mystery and modeled and animated fully in CG. Other vfx challenges ranged from green-screen composites and virtual backgrounds to rig removals and digital stunts.

Smallville anchors the Thursday night line-up on The CW network and airs at 8/7 Central.
